Recruiter Insight: Get to know Nicola Mizzi, Account Executive.

Nicola has been a Recruiter at Red Executive for 3 and a half years. She shares what made her join, what she loves about it and what it takes to be great at your job.

What was your background before joining Red Executive?

I began my Recruiting career in the Investment Banking Industry, then moved onto a role that dealt with international sales. I realised I loved working in an international market and wanted to find a role where this was the focus.

What made you join Red Executive as a Recruiter?

There were three main elements that drew my interest to Red Executive:

  1. I had an interest in digital advertising, which is an area of focus for Red Executive. The industry is extensive, fast-paced and has many exciting companies.
  2. The direction and vision of Red Executive. I wanted to work with Top Talent and be part of something that was helping digitally disruptive companies bring their vision to the market. I love the idea of being part of something that helps bring new and exciting ideas to the market.
  3. I would be able to work in an international market.

What is the best social event at Red Executive?

Definitely the Christmas day out. It’s an action-packed day of team challenges. Last year we went geocaching!

A close second is the Summer Boat Trip, we spend the entire day sailing around Malta on the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.

What do you think it takes to be a successful Recruiter?

You need to have a passion for your industry. This passion translates into drive and desire to continuously learn about your industry.

Also, as a Recruiter, you need to engage in productive discussions with Clients and Candidates. You are constantly talking to people with different backgrounds, opinions and expectations. It is your job to manage situations backed by knowledge, experience and data. It allows you to provide the most effective and realistic solutions to clients and candidates, providing the best service possible.

What is your favourite thing about being a Recruiter?

Dealing with professionals at the top of their fields. By working with Top Talent, you are constantly learning.

What is your biggest achievement at Red Executive?

My biggest achievement is the relationships I’ve built with industry professionals because to be a successful Recruiter, building relationships is imperative. These relationships allow me to do my job effectively.

What are your top interview tips for Candidates?

My top interview tip is to always be well-prepared.

Conduct a lot of research before the interview. Read about the company where you will be interviewing, understand their mission and goals, check out their website, social media and blog. You should also research the person who will be interviewing you and relevant team members.

By researching you gain insight into what they do, what the company wants to achieve and their company culture. This knowledge lets you prepare thoughtful and relevant questions to ask during the interview.

If you could tell Candidates to ask only one question during their first interview, what would it be?

The questions you ask are important. By preparing thoughtful questions to ask during an interview, you can show why you are right for the role and also help you understand if the company will be a right fit for you.

So I suggest you ask:

What do you think are the most important qualities for someone to excel in this role?

What is your favourite food?

This is a tough question because there are so many good flavours. But if I have to choose, I think I would have to go with a nice juicy medium cooked Scottish Fillet Steak.

Where is your favourite place to vacation?

London.  I just love the city, there’s always something to do, it’s buzzing. Plus, I know it quite well, so I have the additional benefit of not feeling disorientated when I first get there and can hit the ground running.
